Paint it black – Freistil, the Biennale of European Commercial Illustration, shows the variety and development of illustration culture. Here you can find talents, facets and skills as well as trends of a fast developing culture which is known for its brave, clear and individual attitude. Brave was also the editor Raban Ruddigkeit, when he decided to put only black and white illustrations into the new edition. Especially through this reduction, the black issue (still printed in 4c with an extra black lacquer) shows the technical quality of European illustration and encourages exploring the boundaries beyond the shades of grey.
